All I need is Nuxe and a little imagination …

So it’s 20°F in New York City, but if you ask me, it’s feeling more like -5°F! All I can think about is being somewhere sunny…tropical

But instead I’m stuck with extra layering, a stuffy nose, and not to mention, dry skin… So in efforts to calm my winter blues I picked up the Nuxe: Creme Fraiche Moisturizing Energizing Emulsion (Dry) tester and viola *does a French accent* :P  a moisturizer that does the job ALL day! It goes on light and has a fresh and clean smell that wont irritate the skin. Nuxe Creme Fraiche We’re talking 24hr moisture that won’t leave that 3 sweater layering feeling on your face. :) Eight Plant Milks and four balancing Essential Oils that leave my skin oh so refreshed and hydrated in the cold winter wind. This  2.1 fl oz jar of goodness helps trap water deep within the skin to replenish the skin with ongoing moisture.

Nuxe Creme Fraiche Emulsion Dry

So maybe I can’t turn snow to sand and I won’t be able to go tanning anytime soon but with a little help from our friends at NUXE Paris and my Mac, I can always be at the beach when the sun is about to set. ;)

Thompson Girls <3 Nuxe

We carry a lot of brands at Thompson Chemists. Spa lines, organic lines, fragrance free lines, aromatherapy lines, luxury lines and plain old quality lines. Nuxe is a spa line from France and a staff favorite. Today, were going to hear from the staff about 3 products, two new and coming-soon, and one classic.

Nuxe Aroma-Perfection Unclogging Thermo-Active Mask 40ml, COMING SOON!

This brand-new product in the Aroma Perfection line already has fans chez TC. Here’s what Christy had to say: “LOVE the Thermo-mask! The heating sensation was odd at first but the mask felt lovely while it was on and made my skin feel refreshed!”

Nuxe Aroma Perfection Skin Perfecting Purifying Lotion, 200ml, COMING SOON

Another brand new product in the Aroma Perfection line, this time it’s a toner! Here is what Jolie had to say about it: ” I have been using the Skin Perfecting Lotion for the past two days. When you apply it, it feels a bit tingly due to all of its fresh ingredients. After a few minutes my pores and skin felt amazing. I felt like I had a new face!! Nice and fresh and tight. I loved it and highly recommend this product.”

Nuxe Cream Fraiche Moisturizing Energizing Emulsion, 60ml, $43.00

This moisturizing cream is a classic Nuxe product and an oft-recommended one here at TC. Recently we sent Imani home with a jar: “I used the Creme Fraiche cream by Nuxe for the past 3 days and I loved it. It moisturizes your face without giving you the feeling that you just plastered a whole pound make-up on your face. Other moisturizers can give your face that feeling because their super think! This cream is light and nice! :) ” We all know the feeling, eh?

A Fiber-addict’s Dilemma

Regular readers may already know that I am a fiber-addict. I knit, crochet, spin and weave (for more on that see my personal blog). When you’re working with fiber, any fiber, you must have clean hands.

However, the problem with freshly washed hands is that, for me at least, it also means dry, aching, itchy skin! But, even though applying a hand cream doesn’t really make my hands dirty, it can still gunk-up my knitting, especially if I’m working with a fine or fuzzy yarn.

The trick is to find the right kind of hand cream that soaks in immediately and leaves little or no residue. The best man for the job is our perennial staff favorite: Nuxe’s Reve de Miel Hand and Nail Cream. This “honey dream” in a tube was created expressly for this purpose (actually they had paper, not fiber, in mind but the concept’s the same!). And at 2.6 oz this little guy is perfect for tucking in your (knitting?) bag.

However, for those of you that like options I have a second (nearly equal) recommendation: No Crack’s Day Use Hand Cream. This is definitely where you get the most bang per buck. The 4 oz tub is only $6.95, the 1/2 oz $1.50 (helpful hint #263: refill your mini with a butter knife from your large tub!).

Nuxe Reve de Miel Hand and Nail Cream, 2.6oz, $19.00
No-Crack Day Use Hand Cream, 4oz, $6.95
No-Crack Day Use Hand Cream, 1/2oz, $1.50

Winter skin blues

To follow up Esther’s very informative post on Xerosis (or dry flaky skin) I thought I would share some of the ways I keep my own very dry skin under control in wintertime. This is also sort of a follow up to my blog on holiday travel (particularly my eulogy to Avene’s Cicalfate Cream, which I won’t repeat).

Today I’m going to talk about the body. Americans often worry only about their visible skin, i.e. the face, and occasionally hands and feet. However, if not properly cared for the rest of the body suffers, not just from dryness but also from the effects from ageing (a topic I’ll address in another post…). Having a good body lotion in winter is, for me, absolutely essential. If I don’t moisturize often enough, my skin cries (Xerosis!). Here are my recommendations for winter moisturizers:

Alaffia: The bargain-hunter’s choice

Alaffia products are fair-trade and shea butter based. We currently carry two body lotions, the Neem Therapeutic Body Lotion and the Kola Ginger Body Lotion which both retail at a shockingly low price of $11.95(8oz).

For extra dry skin we also carry two Shea Butter Balms (Unscented and Rose Geranium) and two Body Butters in spicy Savanna Rain and edible (not really, but almost!) Virgin Coconut scents.

The creams ($12.95/4oz) are nice and thick, perfect for my extra dry skin, but the glass jar runs out quickly if used daily over the whole body. That’s why I like to combine it with one of the lotions, using the lotion daily and the cream after bathing.

The balms ($7.95/2oz) are even richer, in fact they are so rich in shea butter that, like pure shea, they are easier to spread if they have been warmed in the palm beforehand. I like to use the balms on cracked feet, cuticles and elbows.

Nuxe’s Reve De Miel Line: The luxury choice

Nuxe’s Reve De Miel (or Honey Dream) line is one of my favorite ranges we carry. It is based in acacia honey and formulated for dry and sensitive skin, just like mine. There are 10 products in the range: a face cream, a facial cleanser, shampoo, bath and body wash, body scrub, body cream, hand and nail cream, foot cream, lip balm and the SOS Family Balm.

The body cream is absolutely divine. It smells like honey and is incredibly rich without being overly greasy. The Hand and Nail Cream is one of our staff favorites (as I have mentioned before) and the Family Balm is perfect for extra-dry or cracked skin. This line is safe for the whole family (36 months and up).

Lavido: The perfume lover’s choice

Esther mentioned Lavido in her last post. Lavido is our newest line of products at Thompson Chemists and their selection of hydrating perfumed creams will make you thankful for dry skin. My personal favorite is the Vanilla Patchouli Cream but we also have creams scented with Neroli (or Citrus Flowers), Bulgarian Lavender, and Cypress Geranium Frankincense. The creams go on smoothly without being overly greasy. They also are in a fairly large (and classy) glass jar (250ml). For extra dry skin try the Evening Primrose Cream which is considered their “therapeutic” cream. The creams are shea butter based with natural essential oils, most of which are produced on Lavido’s own organic farm in Israel.

Nuxe Gift Set Available At Both Thompson Chemists & Thompson Alchemists IN Soho , NYC

The French spa line, Nuxe, much beloved by the Thompson Chemists crew, has come out with a spectacular gift-set for this year’s holiday season. The set includes our favorite product, the Reve de Miel Hand and Nail Cream as well as Nuxe’s best-seller: the Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Usage Dry Oil in a 100ml spray bottle. The set also includes two minis: the Huile Prodigieuse OR Golden Shimmer Oil (10ml) and the Eau Demaquillante Micellaire 3 Roses Cleansing Water (35ml). The four items are very nicely displayed in a white gift box stamped all-over with the brand name in every color of the rainbow, giving it a light-hearted and festive look.

And, I wasn’t kidding when I said that the Reve de Miel Hand and Nail Cream is our favorite product here in the store. It’s actually so popular with the staff that everytime I place an order with the company I ask for two testers because one won’t get us through! The reasons we like it so much are simple: it gives us the hydration we need (as you might imagine we wash our hands a LOT in the pharmacy…) and soaks in almost immediatly, leaving us free to go about our tasks without having to worry about leaving greasy fingerprints everywhere. Also, like all the products in the Reve de Miel or Honey Dream range, it smells divine.
The Huile Prodigieuse is no worse for the wear. Indeed, it is the product most people know from Nuxe. It is an all purpose dry oil, suitable for face, body and hair. It is indispensible in winter both because it relives dry skin, but also because to me its smell reminds me of summer and beaches, a thought that helps me through those miserably rainly winter days.
The best thing about the gift-set, hands-down, is the price. At only $56.00 it is both a great holiday gift and also an opportunity for any lover of Nuxe products to get two of their top items at a significantly discounted price. The hand cream normally retails at $21.00 and the 100ml oil at $44 giving you at savings of almost $10.00 before even considering the minis.

A note of warning, however, quantities are limited so get yours now!

Winter Lip Remedy x 3

Habitual lip biting initiates a cycle of picking, peeling and bleeding, certainly not glamorous. You’re not going unnoticed nipping at that dead skin hanging off your bottom lip as you try to flirt with that special sweetheart.
Until recently we’ve had little but petroleum jelly to treat those red, swollen, cracked Bozo the Clown lips.
Seriously, not cool. But thankfully, all that has changed!
Gentle exfoliating is always the first step in removing dry, dead skin so let’s begin with NUXE Reve de Miel. Natural ingredients such as Acacia Honey, Shea Butter, Plants oils and Grapefruit Essence deliciously coat your lips while crystallized honey works on filing down loose dead skin. This is more than just a lip balm–this is a deep healing and ultra-nourishing treatment for chapped lips.
Winter time in NYC means lizard like dryness thanks to the the coughing heat pipes in our apartments.  When your lips start to swell, crack and bleed you’ll be bumming so Yu-Be Lip Therapy is the way to go. An original Japanese all-natural formula enriched with vitamin E, camphor, Aloe Vera, Sweet Almond oil along with other natural healing remedies. Trust me when I say that you’ll be very happy when this natural formula leaves your lips feeling smooth and healthy.

Of course, we are in Soho so a touch of class is required. Baxter of California Hydro Salve is a natural vitamin enriched Mojitio flavored lip balm. The benefits of this silky, smooth, sweet feeling can  be spotted from across the room as your lips glisten with its tasty coating. So pucker up for a kiss with that lucky recipient who will be brought back in time to their favorite summer beach fling.
